          Dear HP Sales Rep,


               Thank you for your request for Trial-Size LAN
               Manager/X.  Unfortunately, the Trial-Size HP LAN
               Manager/X program has been discontinued.  This
               discontinuance was announced in the March 15th issue of
               Computer News.  The remainder of this letter is a copy
               of the network hotline that explains the demo program
               that replaces the Trial-Size LAN Manager/X program.

          1.   Introduction


               The Trial-Size HP LAN Manager/X program has been
               discontinued immediately in lieu of a new HP LAN
               Manager/X demo program.


               Customers who request Trial-Size LAN Manager/X via a
               business-reply card are being sent a letter explaining
               how to obtain a copy of the LAN Manager/X demo from
               their Sales Representative.  A copy of this letter is
               included later in this hotline article.  In this letter
               they are told to call their HP Sales Representative and
               ask to arrange to have a demo copy of LAN Manager/X
               version 1.3 installed on their system.


               The demo license when used with version 1.3 of HP LAN
               Manager/X for the HP 9000 provides full-featured use
               that will expire 30 days after installation.

          2.   Providing your customer with an HP LAN Manager/X demo

               To install the HP LAN Manager/X demo on your customer's
               system:

                    1)  You must have a copy of the version 1.3 of LAN
                    Manager/X for the HP 9000 software (either B1011C
                    for the HP 9000 model 600/700/800 or B1003C for
                    the HP 9000 model 300/400).  If you have not
                    received this through an SE distribution, place an
                    order at TAC price.

                    2)  Print out a copy of the license agreement
                    (included in the next section of this document).
                    It includes the demo license number's you'll need
                    to activate LM/X for your customer.  Give your
                    customer a copy of this license when you install
                    the software for him.




          3.   Demo Software Certificate

               =======================================================
               Software Certificate

               Version 1.3 of HP LAN Manager/X for HP 9000 software
               has features to prevent unauthorized copying of the
               software and requires that you enter a serial number
               and activation key before you can start the server.
               Below you will find two serial number / activation key
               pairs.  The demo activation key will activate the
               software to be used for 30 days after it is installed.

               Rights and restrictions on the use, transfer, and
               copying of the software are set forth in the Hewlett-
               Packard Company's Software License Terms.

               LAN MANAGER/X Software License Instructions

               NOTE:  To run the LAN Manager/X server, you MUST enter
                      your serial number and activation key.  Your
                      serial number and activation key are listed
                      above on this certificate.  After you enter this
                      information, archive this certificate.
               =======================================================

               To enter your LAN Manager/X serial number and
               activation key you must log on as the super-user or
               root and run the licensing program, called lmlic.  To
               run lmlic, enter /usr/lib/lm/lmlic.  If you are
               updating an existing license to add more user, be sure
               to restart the LAN Manager/X server after you have
               finished adding your new serial number and activation
               key.




          4.   Customer Letter


               The following is the letter that is being sent to all
               customers who request Trial-Size LAN Manager/X via a
               Business Reply Card:

               To:        HP-UX Customer

               Dear HP-UX Customer

               We have received your request for our Trial-Size HP LAN
               Manager/X product.   This promotion was for a limited
               time only, and, unfortunately, it has been discontinued.

               We have enclosed a copy of the data sheet for HP
               LAN Manager/X for the HP 9000 version 1.3 for your
               information.  Please contact your Hewlett-Packard
               Sales Representative for additional information.

               Thanks again for your interest in HP LAN Manager/X.
               We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
               caused.
